NEW YEAR WISHES

The President, the Executive Board Members and the Staff of FAAB vzw wish you all a happy 2015!   May 2015 be filled with beautiful moments, good health and success in all your endeavors. 

 

POLICY PLAN FAAB VZW

During the member’s day in September the policy plan was discussed in detail and approved by the member associations.

The priorities for the coming years are to make:

  • Member associations stronger and more independent

  • Volunteers & members take up an active role within their association and within the society

  • FAAB act as a bridge between different levels

  • FAAB defend the interest and rights of the African community

  • FAAB improve on its communication aspects

  • FAAB work towards the professionalization of the association

END OF STUDY PROJECT NELSON

Nelson Kome, a social-cultural student from VSPW Gent and a member of the Kupe-Muanenguba Union Belgium (KMUB), a FAAB-affiliated association, who has been on internship at FAAB since January 2013, is writing his end of study project titled: ‘Mobilization within the Anglophone African community in Belgium: on the path to empowerment’.  In view of this project, Nelson would visit some FAAB member associations.  FAAB requests that we give him the necessary collaboration.

 

MEET AND GREET’ IN ANTWERP AND BRUSSELS’

As part of Nelson’s project, FAAB would organize two Meet & Greet sessions in Antwerp and Brussels.  This is a time for member associations of FAAB to meet each other in their region to socialize and discuss issues that will strengthen their associations and FAAB.  We will appreciate if member associations send their representatives to these gatherings. The gatherings are scheduled for 25th April (Antwerp) and 16th May (Brussels).  An invitation will follow.

 

HART BOVEN HARD

“HART BOVEN HARD” is a citizens' initiative that brings together individuals and organizations who are concerned about the planned policy decisions of the Flemish and Federal Governments. 

 From students and retired people to social and cultural organizations, they all envision for a society that “Hart Boven Hard” has spelt out. The initiative is opposed to an economic view of our society and defends equality, solidarity and wants to uplift the people.

FAAB vzw supports and contributes to this initiative. Do you want to actively support, actively get involved, then you can visit www.hartbovenhard.be.

 

MEDIA PROJECT

This a cooperative project between Minderhedenforum, FAAB vzw and other federations in Ghent, with the aim to get more diversity in the media and more attention from the press for the activities that your organization proposes.

The project consists of 4 workshops. Each workshop can be followed separately.  Workshops on press communication, on imaging, on social media and on journalism. An info session will be organized in March. We'll keep you posted!!!

 

REGISTRATION IN FLEMISH SCHOOLS (2015-2016)

BRUSSELS

Primary School

If you wish to register your child for Brussels Dutch-speaking school (children born in 2013 or earlier), you have to apply viawww.inschrijveninbrussel.be(site in Dutch).  Applications will be closed on 30 January 2015 (4 p.m.).  The moment of registration is irrelevant.  The more schools you choose, the better your chance of finding a place.  In March you will be informed if you received the place or not.

Secondary schools

Some schools work with an online registration system.  You can register your child until 30th January on www.inschrijveninbrussel.be.  Detailed info with regards to the further enrollment will be provided by mail.  Other schools enroll pupils directly at the schools’ premises.  Enrollment period from 2 March-3 April.

ANTWERP

Primary School

If you want to register your child for Antwerpen schools (children born in 2013 or earlier), you have to apply via http://meldjeaan.antwerpen.be.  Applications will start on the 11th of February 2015 and end 6th of March 2015 at 5pm. The moment of registration is irrelevant.  The more schools you choose, the better your chance of finding a place.  Careful: registration does not mean your child has been enrolled.

Secondary schools

Secondary schools don’t work with an online system.  If you want to enroll your child you can find more information on the website of the school.  For the first year following periods will be respected: 23 February-6 March: enrollment brothers and sisters; 7 March (1pm)-4 April: enrollment all children.  For the second up till 6th year: enrollment starts after the Easter holidays.

GHENT

Primary School

If you want to register your child for Ghent schools (children born in 2013 or earlier), you have to apply via op https://meldjeaan.gent.be.  Applications will start the 30th January 2015 and end 27th February 2015 at 12pm. The moment of registration is irrelevant.  The more schools you choose, the better your chance of finding a place.  Careful: registration does not mean your child has been enrolled.

Secondary schools

Secondary schools don’t work with an online system.  If you want to enroll your child you can find more information on the website of the school. 

For the first year following periods will be respected: 02-27February: enrollment brothers and sisters; 14 or 16: March 2015:enrollment of all children.

For the second up till 6th year: enrollment starts after the Easter holidays.

YES WE CAN!


An 18 year old girl Nozizwe Dube, who moved to Belgium from Zimbabwe just about 6years ago has made the English speaking Africans in Belgium very proud by being elected as a member of the Flemish youth Board for the next 3 years.

We therefore want to take this opportunity to congratulate her and wish her all the best of luck in the coming years. Bravo Nozizwe!
